Michele,
Contact your local fire service and see if they are involved with juvenile firesetters. Thay may be able to use a questionare to determine the chances of repeat fire setting behaviors. They should be able to provide age appropriate fire safety education. Scare tactics, threat of jail, and burn victim pictures are not shown to effect behavior. That said, your son has set two fires that you know about. You might want to talk to the family doctor about an assesment or counseling.
As always, make sure your smoke detectors are working and that your son does not have access to matches or lighters. Not visible or
reachable.
: My 10 yr old son got caught catching toilet paper on fire today in school. He got suspended for 3 days , the teacher and principal said because he was such a good student he wouldnt be expelled. This is the second incident i know about , 2 weeks ago i caught him burning pencil shavings with a candle i had burning. Ihave always burnt candles and neither of my sons have ever went near them. But after that i stopped.
: My question is should i get him into a program is this a phase or is it something serious?????? He has always been a good boy, he knows fire safety my husband and i taught him plus he learnt in school and boyscouts.
: Another question is punishment what is fair in this situation we grounded him till June 21st from his sonyplaystation, the computer, his dirtbike, and everything except school and baseball. We also made him tell his grandparents, and explained to him what could have happened , he could have burnt the school down and hurt or killed someone !!!!!!!!!!
: We thought if we could find some pictures of burn victims that might make it sink in. Maybe someone here can give us some hints and tell us if this is a serious problem or curiosity ?? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US
: THANK YOU
